Whooping Crane Wood Jewelry Box Armoire
By Christina Chapman
"One of the prettiest things I've ever made" says creator Christina Chapman. A delightful, fully wrapped leather box, suitable for a special collection. It's influences come from Japanese, the Arts & Crafts Movement and the Queen Anne period. The charming box is embellished with a high relief Whooping Crane scene on the front doors, inspired by a true event. The raised, hand shaped lid, is wrapped in one piece of leather, crowned at the top with a 3 1/2 inch sterling concho and is lined with antique silver leafing. The modified Queen Anne "crane-foot" legs, (hand carved under a full leather wrap), have amazing detail. The interior cabinet is solid walnut, with dovetail joinery. The suede lined doors and drawers are designed to be used for jewelry or a special collection. The side openings have pull out suede covered tubes for necklaces. The walnut box rests in a top gallery and is adorned with a tooled, inlaid leather top and interior mirror in the lid. The interior of this separate box is perfect for rings. The whole piece can sit on a low dresser, a custom height counter in a library. 36"H x 31" W X 21" D
