Dave LaMure Jr. lives in southern Idaho and has worked with clay for the last thirty-five years. During that time, he has developed art uniquely his own in many mediums—clay, bronze, and glass. Dave’s innovative style of painting, sculpting and altering vessels is fresh to these mediums. The fine art, size and detail of each piece is a bold approach for this process. While many modern potters use low-fire raku for its simple and spontaneous appearance, Dave manages to successfully mix the warmth and softness of the technique with a contemporary concern for bold shapes that are huge, dynamic and commanding.

Dave likes to create vessels as a metaphor for life—the raku vessel is a fragile, semi-porous and can be very iridescent; the bronze vessel is solid, heavy, impervious and indestructible; the glass vessel is translucent and reflective, yet, it is very solid, but breakable. All these vessels take form through a process of heat, energy and time. We can be open or closed (lidded). There are a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Some are embellished; some are altered from the inside out; and some from outside in. What is most important with the vessel is the empty space inside. Our soul, spirit, being held in that empty space is where peace, fear, joy, anger, creativity, love, kindness etcetera… resides. “When my vessel dumps over horizontally, I hope the flood never stops”.

Dave’s well-deserved recognition in the art world is derived from his expertise in capturing fine wildlife art and contemporary designs on exceptional forms. His detailed artwork is all hand painted with glazes which go through the firing process. “I have drawn from a combination of higher educational experiences in pottery, sculpture, drawing, painting and design classes, but experiencing nature and wilderness are my greatest gifts.” Combining art forms together has taken years of trial and error, but has given Dave’s pieces the identity of art on the cutting edge. “I want to show the symbiotic relationship between the vessel, ourselves and this little ball in space we call home.”

Dave’s recent work in kiln casted glass incorporates a technique similar to the lost wax bronze casting. This is a highly refined process which few artists dare to attempt. Dave refers to his holographic and polished pieces as “Art Under Glass”.

Dave’s expertise and talent in his complicated techniques, has made his artwork investments for collectors. Each piece is different and are all personal creations–all of Dave’s work is signed and numbered. Increasing demands have kept Dave busy with private installations and commission pieces. He has a large number of repeat customers that continue to collect his work.
